From what I can remember you can just over power the plant boss and just straight up kill it without having to do all that shit. And I already stated that Chris is tankier than Jill.

Yeah, I didn't read the whole topic before posting.
I think after Rebecca uses the V-Jolt, the plant releases Chris, and then you can fight it.

You shouldn't be dealing with many Crimson Heads, though.

And yeah, there's a relatively safe spot to fight Plant 42 upstairs where you can avoid the acid and tentacle attacks. I just took the Pistol with Chris and stood in the corner with the spores. It's very slow, but the spores can't kill you and Rebecca can heal you right after.

In REmake, it depends on whether you save the guy poisoned by the snake. I've not seen any in-game justification as to why saving him determines it, so I assume it's just an arbitrary trigger. Basically, if you don't save him, the plant instantly grabs Chris when you enter the room, forcing you to play as Rebecca to make the V-Jolt. If you did save him, it drops you shortly after grabbing you and you fight it at full-strength.
