I left the theater hyped and excited. Darth Maul alone was so fucking hype. My friends and the people in the next row all started saying how it was way better and more fun than "Episode 8".

Was it perfect? No. The beginning especially was way too dark to see much. But I still enjoyed it, especially with Harrelson and Bettany (Vision from the MCU). TLJ seems like an even bigger waste after this.

Good job Ron Howard. I'm looking forward to a Solo 2.

Whereas, I don't think I care much about Episode 9 after TLJ.

Also lol at the resident Star Wars nerds on here swearing last year that Maul would never show up in the movies because his story was done in CW.

Also I wonder with Maul, if they're heading in a MCU cameo direction. I'm thinking more now that Han and Maul will both show up in the Obi Wan and Boba Fett movies.

tbh, being better star wars movie than TLJ isnt a big accomplishment.
heck, even people who originally hated the PT movies now starting to like them because they're not the worst anymore.

I liked half of TLJ. Solo was just lukewarm subpar through and through, and Darth Maul is the most boring character in the history of characters.

Solo was at least as good as Rogue One but the shitty cinematography brought it down.

Alright guys, I get putting it up against literal shit like TLJ would make anything look amazing.

But being honest here, it was not a bad movie at all and really took me by surprise. It felt way more Star Wars. Maybe because Ron Howard is an actual fan and has decades under his belt.

While RJ just made Ozymandias and Looper.

Also i just realized Warwick Davis' character Weasel was actually the same motherfucking Weasel that was friends with Anakin and watched the Pod Race in E1.

And Jon Favreau was Rio Durant. Favreau is the guy that plays Happy in the MCU, directed IM 1 and 2 and has been given a full Star Wars TV series to work on.

I liked that it expanded the universe and introduced new alien species. Also, it showed new insight on the empire with Han signing up and slumming it in war after he was kicked out.

Imo, Solo was also better than RO. I didn't feel connection to RO for some reason. It was the first move in decades where I actually dozed off a bit.

RO wasn't that bad, but I think Solo kept me more in there, despite RO having Darth Vader.

May have been Chewbacca that really kept it Star Wars for me.

I think they were going for a trilogy according to the earlier rumors, but I'm not sure if the box office numbers will change the future of Star Wars Stories. So as an "Episode 1", it was a good setup movie. If they're gonna keep going back to this time period, might as well link things up between movies.

Hoping Maul is in a few more.

Why?

Because it shrinks the galaxy. Part of the appeal for me with a space opera is that it's set in a huge galaxy and that there are so many new things to discover. Reusing characters as Easter eggs (like the droids, Chewie and the Fetts in the PT, or the wanted in 12 star systems guy in RO, or this) undermines that completely.
