dw7 is a personal favorite for the story mode but the gameplay is not good. i hear one piece warriors 3 is a contender for best as well, but haven't really played enough.

I really like Pirate Warriors characters. The modes, however, can be a bit lacking. 3 had ostensibly an adventure mode but it was more like a set number of procedurally-generated iterations without enough content to make it not feel like the same shit continuously. 1's story mode was more cinematic and adventure-y but it's hard to call it good. 2 has good solid gameplay and roster, and the original story is pretty cool, but again, there isn't much beyond playing story battles and playing non-story battles that are very similar.

to be fair, rotk and sengoku period aren't exactly Koei-original stories in the first place

All in all the best I've played is Hyrule. The runners-up must be from the latter two Pirate Warriors and DW8XL. I haven't played that many others, though.

Really wish we had gotten that DQ Heroes 1-2 port to Switch in the west. I guess they probably didn't want to put in the effort and resources to record new English dialogue for Ragnar.

I played DW4, Orochi 2, and the first Gundam to death, so I'm partial to them. The Fist of th North Star game was fun. Never got to play the OP ones, wish they hadn't been Sony exclusive =/.
