Sony recently confirmed that Santa Monica Studios action-adventure epic God of War managed to break a PS4 sales record by becoming the fastest selling exclusive on the current generation platform by moving an impressive 3.1 million units in just three days. Now, the American market research company known as The NPD Group has confirmed that not only did the title manage to become the best-selling game of April 2018, but also it broke another record by achieving the highest ever launch month dollar sales for a title released exclusively on any PlayStation platform.

As it so happens, The NPD Group has also reported that God of War was such a successful financial performer for April 2018 that the title assisted Sony in becoming the months top-selling publisher within the industry. In fact, the PS4 exclusives positive debut helped the consoles software dollar sales last month set an all-time April high for any platform since tracking began in 1995, beating the previous record held by Xbox 360 set in April 2008.

It's honestly surprising. It's a single player story based game that doesn't have a season pass, dlc, or any of the sort and it can still sell that well. I bet to Sony it was a gamble and it paid off. Though I do wonder if it didn't have the God of War logo slapped on it, would it still sell well?

pedigree certainly helps numbers, but its a great game regardless.

I think it was the critical acclaim that pushed them through. It certainly got me to get the game earlier than I expected.

pedigree certainly helps numbers, but its a great game regardless.

I feel like these recent PS exclusives are just the MCU of gaming.

They appeal to the same crowd.
