What styles do you prefer?

Stouts and porters all year round! Although, may find a preference for IPAs and white beers in the warmer seasons.

I like stouts and porters a lot but is there anything worse on a hot day when you've been physically active? For those kinds of days a really crisp pale ale is perfect.

although in the event of you having a party, it's more cost efficient to have a bunch of bud's than a bunch of flying dogs

It's also generally a complete waste. Like after beer 3 you're not really savouring those aromas anymore.

of course, if I were feeling warm, I probably wouldn't drink anything thick like a stout, but since most of my beer drinking takes place at places where it's not too warm (pubs), a stout or porter doesn't hurt.

and I bet most people you invite to drink, aren't going to do it to swirl the taste around their palate and describe its flavours in full detail. they just want to drink while being social, eventually leading up to drunkenness.

I bartend, so yeah. Style preference depends on mood and weather and what Im doing. In general, though, Im going to reach for a stiff drink first. Negroni, old fashioned, straight liquor, etc.

Belgian beer also kicks most American beer in the teeth. Tastier, lighter, and much higher gravity in general. Possibly compounded by all the mediocre microbreweries popping up like zits everywhere.

most perhaps by volume

not really by brand

duvel is in direct competition with so many american brands that they have bought a bunch of them

I like most styles, stouts and porters are near the bottom for me tho. IPAs at the top.

I did have a tequila barrel aged apa that was horrid this past weekend.

I don't usually have more than three without settling into a mixed drink to nurse for the rest of the evening. I'm not that heavy a drinker.

Thats because most small breweries throw flavors at beer like darts at a dartboard. Maybe 5% of them know what theyre doing, and its typically the larger ones. New Holland, Bells, Founders, Sierra Nevada, Dogfish Head, Foothills, New Belgian Brewing Company, Oskar Blues, Brooklyn, Firestone Walker, Great Divide, Wicked Weed, Boulevard, Ommegang, and probably a couple of others Im forgetting are the only ones worth bothering with. Youll know the locals that are good via word of mouth.

This was from a great brewery. Not everything is going to be a hit. Their IPA is one of my favs, its a local place.

That sounds heavenly. Honestly, a slightly cold stout with the right head is perfection. Like drinking coffee-flavored chocolate milk. I try not to buy the same beer twice, when I have the option, and during the summer months stouts aren't as trendy so I avoid buying them entirely. If not for those self-imposed rules though, I might literally drink nothing else.

Yep. I live in San Diego which is apparently one of the bigger craft brewing cities so I love going around to random bars and breweries. I mostly lean towards hefes and wietbier. Modern Times has this thing called the Tortuga which is a tangerine wheat beer and I think it might be my favorite all time.

Although in most party settings I really enjoy coronas, with lime preferably.

almost exclusively. i'll drink a corona just fine, but i don't mind spending extra on beer that i love. it's worth it for me.

ipas and stouts are my favorite. i'll drink most stuff, though. if there's a style i don't like, i'll be stubborn enough to keep trying until i find something i like.

Getting warm, so Kolsch, sours, and wheats.

Im not digging this trend of barrel aged beer. If I wanted something that tasted like whiskey, I'd just drink a whiskey.
It's getting to be as bad as the apple cider craze

The idea is to only have a hint of whiskey, and effectively doing something you couldnt in a cocktail
