They are different Male and female Combee dont take up two slots. Male and female Ralts dont take up two slots. Male and female Salandit dont take up two slots. Nidoran M and F taking up two different pokedex slots is outdated. --- ... Copied to Clipboard!

But combee only changes to vespiqueen
Ralts is split on kirlia not ralts Salandit only changes to Salazzle Meanwhole both nidoran M and F have different evolutions, it's totally fine if they're 2 entries. --- ... Copied to Clipboard!

The only real reason they dont share a slot is because genders didnt actually exist until gen 2. If the nido family was introduced in gen 2 or later, Nidoran would be a single slot. --- ...
