Reviews always mention that they're $200ish less than flagship phones - but here's the thing, NOBODY pays MSRP for a flagship phone like the S9. Within one or two months you can usually get a Galaxy phone either BOGO or several hundred dollars off. A bunch of OP6 reviews laud it for having an MSRP of $550, but OP phones almost never go below that MSRP until they're replaced by their successor. You can already get an unlocked S9 for around $650, and it'll only get cheaper in the next few months. It won't be long before it's actually possible to get cheaper than the OP itself.

LG phones do the same thing. It makes no sense to me how this is not discussed in reviews.

The reality is that you're getting a shitty camera, lower resolution screen and nips and tucks all over the place for a price that really isn't as competitive as the manufacturer wants you to believe.

Sure, if you pay out the ass for a plan, then it makes no sense to pay full price for any phone.

That's not the market they're targeting. I have a prepaid plan so I have to pay full price when I get a phone, and when I last was in the market for a new one the 5t was the best option for me.

That's the thing, I'm talking about unlocked phones. You can get no-contract unlocked flagships for much cheaper than MSRP if you shop around. I use Straight Talk, which is bring-your-own-phone, so I'm more than familiar with buying unlocked phones.

Because those are the exact ignorant type of people it targets. Usually they have some dumb stigma against "lol $1k phones", when if they just wait a bit, they can get it for 50% off.

I literally got my Note 8 for $450 without any contract because I took advantage of a trade in deal for my old iPhone 5.

The BOGO non-contract deals from places like T-Mobile are pretty legit, too. The ones that only require a one month activation are worth it.
