I don't think I've ever had to wait so long to get a room before. It's weird cause when I got to the emergency room there was only one other person in there, and I got a room here in the ER within 10 minutes of arriving. Doesn't seem they're very busy tonight. I just want to get some sleep. /blogfaqs

I think it took 80+ minutes when I had my appendix trying to kill me before I finally got to have my vitals taken but it was a hospital where normally you'd have them taken within 10-20 minutes of signing in because they triage and rank the order of severity for patients there.

Needless to say, I was in agony and was in and out of it from the pain.

The only good thing was it took so long that I managed to get to that 8+ hours since my last meal and drink period before getting my appendix removed.

Reminds me of when I got admitted to a behavioral health facility and there were people that were sitting in the waiting room for seven hours. Shit sounds miserable

In Cali I checked in for some crazy body numbing panic attack type thing and immediately seen that the room had like 100 people in it. I stealthed back out pass the security and front door person >_>. Just rode it out.

One time I accidentally cut my hand open on a knife (ended up needing 4 stitches). I got it all gauzed/bandaged up before I went to the hospital.

I ended up sitting in the waiting room for so long that:

A) I watched the majority of the NFC Championship game between the Packers and Bears
B) I watched the majority of the AFC Championship game between the Steelers and Jets
C) They had to rip the gauze out when I finally got into a room because the blood had already started to dry which basically reopened the cut

Also the numbing needles were more painful than the cut itself holy fuck.

Yeah, it's truly awful when you have to wait hours and hours in the waiting room.

I've been in the waiting room with people there for their appendix. I always feel really bad for them, since they always seem the most miserable. Like basically just sitting there and crying the whole time. Seems like waiting times are getting longer and longer.

yeah I broke my arm way back in 4th grade and my mom drove me to a local hospital and I had to wait like 3 hours while my arm was broken in half lol.

then the doctor had to break it the rest of the way

Still waiting lol. Doesn't seem like I'll be moving any time soon. My nurse just told me the ER just got slammed with a ton of new arrivals too.

Yikes, that's traumatic. The cool thing about the hospital here is that they have an entirely separate ER just for kids. Hopefully they don't have to wait that long.

I actually handled it pretty well since it didn't hurt at all(somehow? idk).my arm was so bent I could touch the inside of my elbow with my fingertips, but the doctor had to break one of the bones all the way through before they put the cast on. they put me on laughing gas for that though

Unless you have chest pain, can't smile properly, or bleeding buckets, you'll get triage into the end of the line, thanks Obama.

I was with my Dad a few years back when we went in to have his appendix out. I've never seen him in so much pain. He couldn't even manage to talk to the nurses and doctors. I'm pretty terrified of ever going through that myself, and I deal with some pretty damn nasty pain with Crohn's. Pain anywhere in the GI tract is the worst.

I was playing soccer and someone slid into my arm and it broke it in 4 places, but only 3 went all the way through so the doctor had to finish the last one.

I think I just have weak bones tbh because I was breaking up a fight a few years ago and my ankle got rolled and all 3 bones shattered

Damn dude, that's a lot of bones to break. I've never had a broken bone before, and hope I never do.

yeah last time I went to an ER it was for a panic attack, I wasn't really experienced with them and I thought I was gonna die and everything. My only option was to ride that shit out in the waiting room. Thanks a lot, the ativan you gave me would have been really helpful an hour earlier.

Only been to the ER twice in my life *knock on wood*

Got bitten by a dog in fifth grade and it drew blood. Had to get the doctor to look at it and get some shots. I got bit around 5 or 6PM. I was home and in bed around when South Park came on the Comedy Network. So around midnight I think?

Second time I sliced my hand open. I had a paper route and twice a week we'd get the massive pile of advertising flyers from local businesses to deliver to each house in the neighborhood. I couldn't find scissors to cut the little bundling thing so I used a knife. I didn't cut away from my thumb, towards my chum, so I ended up slicing the outer part of my hand open to the base of my thumb. My Dad stopped the bleeding kinda by applying a pressure. Waited about 3-4 hours in emergency to get some stitches.

Since I started chemo I got a special card that has my medical and treatment info on it, and if I present it at the ER apparently they treat it as seriously as heart attacks and shit like that. I hope I never have to use it.

emt here
you can blame everyone and their mother calling 911 for ambulance transports to the ER because they think they'll get admitted faster. nope. if you're stable and can walk we're sending you to waiting room and now you got an ambulance bill as well.

only maybe 15% of our calls are actually critical and require advanced life support intervention. worst part is if the patient isn't ambulatory or unable to sit in the waiting room we have to sit with the patient on our gurney until they get a bed in the ER. longest i've waited with a patient while holding the wall was 8 hours. i got paid for it, sure, but damn is it frustrating.

I was able to get a few hours of sleep. First I've slept since Thursday night. I'm not sure how long they're gonna keep me here this time. I'm hoping I can be sent home by later tonight, but it likely won't be until tomorrow.

Panic attacks are a bitch. I'm pretty sure this hospital has a separate psychiatric emergency area that doesn't seem to get too many people there. I've never really seen anyone come in for a panic attack here.

I got bitten by a dog around the same age before too. My mom was able to get me an appointment with my pediatrician that same day since it happened in the morning while I was waiting for the bus. A neighbor a few houses over would let their dog out of the house in the morning without a leash or supervision to go take a shit in other people's yards. The dog was pretty aggressive and I was alone at the bus stop that morning. He ran right up to me and I stuck my hand out and got bit. Got a rabies shot at the doctor, and I never saw the dog again lol.

I feel like in general, there are a lot of people that are clogging up the ER system for stuff they should just be going to their doctor for. Last time I came the guy next to me in the waiting room was there for a mild stomach ache, he wound up walking out after a few hours anyway. It's weird people think they're going to get quicker treatment if they call an ambulance. I wonder what gives them that idea. I've been in so much pain that I'm mostly unable to walk and still just have someone drive me to the ER. Maybe they just don't have anyone that can take them?
