Trans people are not trying to force you to date us. It is, however, deeply transphobic to decide that you never want to date any transgender person ever, and the choice to draw such a line is rooted in ignorance, fear, and disgust of trans people. The transgender community is a massively diverse group with all kinds of body types, genital configurations, personalities, hobbies, and relationship styles. To categorically exclude all people from that group, who would otherwise align with your sexuality (trans men for a straight woman, trans women for a lesbian woman, etc.) is not only missing out on many potential connections you could have with people who you would otherwise have a wonderful time dating, but also reinforces the oppressive social system that says transgender women arent really women because they were assigned male at birth, and vice versa for trans men. Lots of people could never date someone from a different religion or culture from themselves because that is a fundamental part of who they are and the life they want to live. If a Catholic person knows they could only date and marry another Catholic, that doesn't mean they hate or discriminate against all other religions. The kind of transgressions that she is talking about hurts the LBGTQ community. 100% there is so much terrible shit going on that is cause for concern. Someone saying there is no way they could date a transgender person is one of the least worrying concerns. Many people just know it is something they could not handle, regardless if it is personal bias, ignorance, etc. etc. Lots of people... LOTS of people just can't wrap their heads around being intimate with someone who is transgender. Part of this is due to how mysterious and secretive North American culture is about genitalia and sexuality. If we were more open about gender, sexuality, genitalia, then we would in turn be more open culturally to those making the decision to reflect the gender they belong with. Someone admitting they couldn't be in a relationship with a person who is in this battle is just being honest. A lot of people wouldn't be able to handle dating someone who is extensively disabled, mentally or physically. Lots of people cannot see themselves dating outside their religion, or cultural background. That doesn't mean they hate on, discriminate, or otherwise harm others.
