We are far and away the most conservative / right wing country of all Western democracies.

Our left has moved so much over the years it would be on the right of the right 30 years ago.

And yet the right thinks this country is increasingly liberal and wants more and more shifts to the right.

Its scary and just false.

The fact you associate gender and sexuality with political ideology shows how successfully the right has pushed this country to the extreme.

They have politicized the most private of affairs so their supporters view personal choices they disagree with as a threat when it doesnt affect them.

Reagan once said libertarianism is at the heart of conversatism, but they have so exercised that from the party the right in this country openly asks for the government to make laws regulating the personal lives and choices of those they disagree with and see no irony in asking for that and small government.

What right wing economic policies are you talking about? We've just passed another 'trickle down' tax cut while slashing support programs from the budget, and handed the overwhelming majority of that money over to the people who need it least. Republicans aren't campaigning on the tax cut and the attempted Obamacare repeal to fund it because they know it's extremely toxic. And they continue to insist they can pay for this tax cut without cutting medicare and medicaid, when every analysis of their funding has concluded these cuts are now inevitable.

There are two ways GOP politicians talk about this. You have the one's who will off the record admit their caving to pressure from their donors and that they are powerless to do otherwise. When they fuck up (ie: Marco Rubio) and forget to remove their names from the record, they immediately rollback their positions after they are published. And you've the Paul Ryan's who have completely lost touch with financial reality, and who think $100.00 will make up the funding difference for a new car, or $60.00 for a costco membership is a good deal.
