As a secular liberal, and not coming from a military family, I have to say in the past I was always very annoyed at stereotypical conservatives kissing the troops' asses all the time as if they're the only ones who make the world go round.

But then I was listening to a podcast about the topic of honor. The Navy SEALs were brought up and the guy who was a guest who'd recently written a book on honor, mentioned that the SEALs have a strict honor code like, 'collective responsibility' and 'not leaving your brother on the field.'

So I thought, wow, this is actually how I feel about politics and life. I've always had this sort of collective honor code in life. So maybe I do actually respect the troops way more than a lot of these narrow minded ass kissing conservatives.
