I still love to paint, draw, and ink my pieces out, but now it feels so much more like actual work. Strips a lot of fun and creativity out of it.

I can't really just mess around or paint whatever. Waste of time to not have an exact idea of what I make and how before I make it. Some doodles are alright to sell, but not with paint, which is where the decent money is at.

If it makes you feel any better, even Beethoven wrote some bullshit he didn't like just to keep a roof over his head.

Not really

I was hoping maybe someday I'd be good and effective enough to do work I like without wasting time or money. If a pro couldn't, I doubt I'll get to a point where I can free paint unique ideas with no reference images that looks nice and makes money.

My work is diverse too so I can't just get really good in one area like landscape painting or something.

If you get to that point you'll be in a position where you'll have the power in the client/artist relationship, so rather than a master/slave situation like you'd be used to, it will look more like you directing the creative process and guiding your clients on what should be done.

I work in a creative field and manage various creatives. For a junior designer or regular one they need a lot of input on what needs to be done. For the really hotshit ones, I just sit back and let them do whatever.

So you can get to that point where people just pay you for whatever cool shit you dream up, you just need to prove yourself.
