I don't think most(adults)think he is in the sky. It's more a metaphor.

I think Obama was awful. ACA drive premiums up and kicked people off insurance but I believe that was the goal since Democrats ultimately want single payer. Also he did more to promote racial divide and identity politics than help it.

Trump is just strange. I did not vote for him nor like him in the general election but he has done some good things. Pulling out of the Iran deal, tax reform, etc. But then he signs the omnibus package, does not distance himself from the alt right, etc. that makes me roll my eyes.

In John it says Jesus died 1 day before the beginning of passover, in Mark it says he died 1 day after the beginning of passover. There is no reconcilliation of this blatant contradiction that Ive ever seen anyone make. If the Bible is the errant word of God, how can it say two completely contradicting things?

I would need specifics.

On a base level, I don't care who gets married. Government sucks at everything so they shouldn't get involved in everything. Who cares who gets married. But if there is a Christian bakery who doesn't want to make a cake for that wedding, that also is fine. Go to another bakery and let Capitalism does it job by taking business from the Christian baker.

Um, both. I grew up in church but my parents never forced indocrinated me or anything. I loved church. In high school and college though I became much more left and resented church but then at age 20 I was given 4 weeks to live because of a aggressive brain tumor. I resented God even more. But then, all these things fell into place and I got the surgery I needed, finished college, etc. It was only later that I discovered all these local churches paid THOUSANDS to my parents (both teachers, middle class) to help us cover costs, etc. and they never once promoted it or advertised it. God started working on me, I got back in church and rediscovered what I had lost.

I covered the losing faith thing in my previous post.

And my faith works for me, I've felt and seen what it has done in my life. I know there are thousands of religions and inconsistencies in mine but the core belief of who and what Jesus was and did, I've felt it in my life. It's faith for a reason.

As an atheist... I actually admire people who have faith. It must be nice to have something that you can cling to when all else seems lost.

My family is kind of religious but not really but I have just never felt any pull to religion. The world is completely black and white to me and even if I try to see the grey it just doesn't happen for me.

I've sat in churches for weddings and funerals and I can't stand it. But it does seem nice for the people who believe.

Because men wrote it. I think some people take the "EVERY WORD IS TRUE NO MATTER WHAT" thing too literally. To me, the core concept of Jesus and his purpose is what actually matters. I don't pray to or have faith inJohn or Mark, only Jesus.

Yes but I know about the shellfish thing from the old testament. Jesus and his sacrifice created a new covenant though so that's why alot of old testament laws died away.

The state does not belong in the marriage business. It is difficult for a religious person to know that they are de facto supporting something by paying taxes to anything which is contrary to their faith. Religious people dont want other things like state sponsored abortion either as this means they are supporting the deaths of what they feel are innocent lives. As a religious person, I have no problem with domestic partnerships.

So if the core of your belief is solely in what Jesus did, how do you reconcile nothing being written about him until almost 40 years after he died? I'd imagine if someone was walking around performing miracles like raising the dead people would have written about that.

My point is that if you only care about what Jesus did and have nothing but the Bible to base that on, and all the Gospels in the Bible that were written about Jesus weren't written untill at least 40 years after he died, that seems like a weak basis for which to place your faith.
