CNN (and everyone freaking out over this) have learned nothing since 2016. You can't draw conclusions like this from a single poll. If you fell for CNN's poll-illiterate clickbait article, do yourself a favor and go read 538 instead.

So you mean "being white"

It doesn't promote white supremacy. It was created for two reasons

1. remind whites not to feel guilty for being white (depending on who you ask this is white supremacy)
2. to show how anti-white racism has been normalized (to some degree), by the inevitable over-the-top reactions to something inoffensive and anti-racist

It and terms surrounding it - e.g. Kekistan, are definitely associated to an extent with some of the more extreme facets of the right-wing. There's nuance to these things and context matters; it's not a universal paint-it-all situation where anybody who uses X meme or term is a white nationalist. The point is that white nationalists do, in fact, use these symbols and items very frequently.

Do I think Twitch is a white nationalist platform because a few Pepe emotes exist? No. Do I think you're an alt-righter because you posted what is pretty clearly a /pol/ meme? Not really. Pepe is a fairly diverse meme that works in many contexts. But it was co-opted by white nationalists and a lot of people associate it with that. You can blame the media for that, in part, but it doesn't change the fact that it and many political memes like that are /pol/ originated, and /pol/ is a hotbed for the extreme right.

Basically: My point boils down to this

-/pol/ meme

-"It's okay to be white" slogan, which has been demonstrably used as a tool by white nationalists (statements don't always exist in vacuums; this one certainly doesn't)

-Outfit of pepe characters in the meme is similar to that of the well-documented outfits of white nationalists at the Charlottsville rally - dark pants/khakis and a white t-shirt.

Do you understand why somebody might take that the wrong way when a ton of things that can be linked to supremacist movements all turn up in the same image? Context matters, and you appear to be continuously ignoring that fact.

I still never got a response to my post relevant to the topic at hand, either, but you clearly aren't interested in actual discussion, which is why you posted that image to start with.

Similarly, "white lives matter" is a term that seems innocuous when used in a vacuum, but I can go link you a video of basement dwellers carrying tiki torches shouting "WHITE LIVES MATTER" the same day they said "JEWS WILL NOT REPLACE US".

If your point is that the term itself isn't heavily charged, okay, but why are you ignoring the context in which it's used, since the context is how it exists in practical conversation? The whole point is to imply white people have been victimized. That's a statement with a political agenda, and it's used by ethno-nationalist groups.

An inoffensive, true, and anti-racist statement can't be used to promote hatred. It's undeniably and explicitly an anti-hate message.

It's sad that some have to reminded that it doesn't make one a white nationalist or supremacist when they say "It's okay to be white".

The pants in the images range from khaki to dark brown to black. They all have buckles, they all have similar sizes, and they're all wearing white shirts.

Are you seriously implying it's a massive coincidence that clothing extremely similar to what white nationalists wear turned up in a /pol/ meme and that there's no relation?

Pepe is Pepe. He can be used for anything.

Wrong

https://www.cnn.com/2018/03/07/us/pepe-frog-infowars-lawsuit-matt-furie-trnd/index.html

The internet (random individuals using Pepe memes) don't care about Matt Furie's whining.

They'd better take Furie's fury into account if they wish to do more than just meme.

https://motherboard.vice.com/en_us/article/ywwxj7/pepe-the-frogs-creator-gets-alt-right-childrens-book-pulled-vows-to-aggressively-enforce-his-intellectual-property

I don't know what your point is about this Matt Furie guy. He has no say in how how popular and widespread Pepe is by random people sharing it. It's not up to him.

Irrelevant.

Dark brown =/= khaki. You're stretching.

When I worked in an office building that is what 90% of the guys would wear. Are they all white supremacists?

I didn't see any dark brown pants. Khaki, black, maybe dark blue denim in there.

"It's okay to be white" was black text printed on a white background. As simple and direct as could be. Why wouldn't the shirts be white to showcase a message that was always printed on a white background to begin with?
