Wanting to be acknowledged for being right is sometimes as childish as not admitting when youre wrong

A lot of people don't even want to acknowledge other people's arguments and just want to push narratives.

99% of the people on this site will never admit when they are wrong.

But that applies to real life as well. We have gotten to the point where if we admit we are wrong, it's a weakness and it's pounced upon.

I feel like most people want to be in the right when they engage in conversation about something. So yeah, I think most people hesitate to admit when they're wrong. I know I've been guilty of that.

Plus, it can also be bad to just accept what the other person is saying because you don't have a response ready at the time. People make that mistake a lot too, especially in the era of infinite information at our fingertips. It's okay to not know something. It's okay to say that you don't know something. It's okay not to immediately change your views when they're challenged with something you don't know the answer to. And yet, I've definitely been guilty of fucking that up as well.

The point of conversation shouldn't be a competition with win-loss rates. It should be a means for everyone to share ideas and hopefully zero in on the more accurate ones. If that means the view you hold is one you eventually have to alter heavily or completely throw out, that just means you might be closer to a more complete and correct picture of reality.

maybe you're right but a lot of people think that people are "nicer" in real life as opposed to interacting on the internet

I always admit when I'm wrong. I consider it a learning experience so in the future I can stop making the same mistakes.

you're probably in the minority though, sad but true.
