I wouldn't even expect my current girlfriend to take any part of my last name. She has an established research career under her last name.

Yes, and I let my wife know that before we got married, but she chose to take my last name legally while using her maiden name to keep working as a professional name in her field.

That being said, one name only for the kids. Our combined last name would've been almost twenty letters, fuck that noise.

I wouldnt care. My kids will have my name only though. No exceptions.

She is free to take my name, hyphenate, or keep hers.

My son has my last name though. I was not going to hyphenate that.
