Yeah, it's messed-up to sacrifice your daughter and then wipe out half of the universe, but wiping-out half of the universe is a better solution than creating more resources. If you introduce the option of just creating more resources out of nothing, you open several doors.

1. If you can create resources out of nothing, the value of those resources plummets, and with it, the importance of working to harvest, craft, mine, collect, grow, etc those items. The eliminate of need for these important jobs brings a loss of income and drop in quality of life for these people. If you don't have to work to make these resources, what value is there in acquiring these skills and expertise, so you diminish the value of the educators and trainers who teach others how to do these professions, so that's more job loss and loss of income/quality of life.

2. If you can create resources out of nothing, various economies are decimated. Towns, cities, states, counties, and countries that specialize in exporting these resources that you can create out of nothing, like Saudi Arabia, that specializes in exporting crude oil and China, that leads in exporting all sorts of valuable commodities. There'd be no real need to export anything if Thanos can just create it from air.

3. If you can create resources out of nothing, what purpose is there to working for your money to buy these worthless items? If you don't need to worry about lack of food or drinking water, much less the value of these basic essentials, you might give in to gluttony and eat more than your body physically needs, giving way to obesity, hypertension, heart attacks, etc. Remember the humans in Wall-E? Gluttony and laziness bred a generation of overweight humans.

Yeah, it sucks that half the universe is now gone, but it's a better alternative than what could happen. On the plus side, at least you half a 50/50 chance that pedophiles, rapists, murderers, criminals, terrorists, etc are gone. That's good, right?

The whole why didnt he just make food for everyone is a fallacy. He himself even says that theres a finite amount of resources in the universe. Even with his powers he couldnt just make New matter out of nothing.

He could since that's literally what omnipotence is. It was just shitty Marvel writing.

As far as the MCU canon goes we dont know that the gauntlet actually makes him omnipotent, possibly just extremely powerful

I don't see why he couldn't just use the reality stone to terraform a bunch of empty planets, then use the space stone to redistribute the population to those newly habitable planets. Then he'd only need to worry about genocide after every planet becomes overpopulated. He'd really only need 2 stones for that too.

Also, isn't an entire planet starving to death from overpopulation actually something that naturally balances the universe anyway? Overpopulated planet = death, Thanos with the stones = death. I don't particularly see why he took such offense at something happening naturally that he wants to happen anyway.

So you're saying Thanos has figured out the exact amount of resources in the entire universe? If someone thinks resources are finite then I feel they are wrong. The only type of resources that are finite are non-renewable resources.

He experienced that firsthand with his home planet. That experience drove him to think it more merciful to prevent it; allowing it is villainous while he thinks himself heroic.

I watched a video earlier and they asked a somewhat similar question.

"What about the planets that Thanos went to and already killed half of the people? Does it kill another half?"

Is his reality changing permanent though? He turns Drax to stone and Mantis to paper but they change back to normal when Thanos leaves. Maybe it only works for a limited amount of time or he has to keep the power going constantly?

Idk. Plus, different than the comics, I guess. So, the gems could be slightly different. Disney can choose basically what they want. So, maybe not. But, I mean, it depends on what he decides to do. Like for food. He could always plant a lot of crops. And because he can control time, he could grow lots of crop very quickly. Feed all the hungry. As an example...
