Its only difficult because medical education in general is terrible and the administration doesnt care for the well being and efficiency of teaching the material.

Most of us just teach the material ourselves through third party sources and try our best to pass the board exams.

It's murky. You can't charge money for services if you're unlicensed, but you can legally call yourself a medical doctor.

Licensing is a state level thing. If you pass USMLE Step 3 you are a full doctor to the federal government.

My roommate is a med student and he says the exact same thing lol. He doesn't even go to classes. It's just a matter of knowing the stuff for boards and he's doing fine.

Residency sucks

I'd offer words of reassurance but, frankly, I think I need a therapist after all I've gone through.

It's almost impossible to not have a job as a doctor if you're even trying.

Mine is really front loaded. Intern year is brutal but 2nd year is mostly elective and research time then 3rd year is busy again. They do that to make it easy to get fellowship.

There's a huge shortage of docs pretty much everywhere.

Problem is it hasn't changed with the times. 2 years of med school is basics sciences, where you memorize enzymes and transmitters and pathways that can be easily looked up and that you forget as soon as step 1 is over. Some of that time should be spent teaching business skills, innovation, leadership, communication... All the stuff you need to be a physician leader that school doesn't teach

Along those lines, the way Health Care is going is that nurses and mid levels are going to be expected to provide a higher level of care and doctors are going to be in more managerial roles. Docs are also going to be on the line for cost of care a lot more than they were in the past, but the average med school teaches basically nothing about that stuff.
