I doubt anyone can make Star Wars movies good anymore. Disney or not. There's just too much that's been already told about it, that you can only start repeating the same stories over and over again. There's no creativity behind why it's still here. It is all branding and recognition.

Sure it's a lot, but adjusted for inflation episodes I, IV, V, VI and VII all did better (VII obviously did far better without inflation) and III isn't far behind. I think that's the point here, if it were a good SW movie it had potential to do $2+ billion easy.

There was almost zero intrigue in the prequels, but that's because the story is all laid out already. We know the main character is going to be Darth Vader, and we know everyone else is going to either have to die or go somewhere.

As much as I hate prequels, that's the least of those movie's problems. The first movie is like an hour and a half of intergalactic CSPAN, CGI characters, and trade negotiations.

TFA had both of those and also had the whole thing where even people who didn't usually watch Star Wars would go and see it. I don't see how TLJ would ever be able to easily top TFA.

If people didn't go see TFA there's next to no chance they'd see TLJ. Meanwhile lots of newbies would have seen TFA.

They didn't spend billions for Black Panther, they spent billions to buy the company, Marvel.
If they actually bought the Black Panther property individually, it would have been priced at chump change.

Keep in mind Marvel sold the Spider Man property for 7 million dollars....

Black Panther would have probably sold for like 500k lmao

Almost always I side with the critics when there is a divide like that, but this time I side with audiences. I didn't hate it because I didn't go into it thinking it was going to be awesome. I'm a little too clever for that. Yet it was overly long and without any charm at all. I also liked The Force Awakens, too, so it's not just me wanting to grind an axe over their doing this.

What's your point? They still paid $4 billion to get Black Panther. Just because other characters came with it doesn't really mean anything. It was an all-or-nothing deal.
