I have a trans friend. Who was getting pissed at me for not getting pronouns right and it wasn't for lack of trying. It was just I knew "him for years" and had met her a handful of times. I've never actually seen someone say anything like it's portrayed in movies or online though Closest I've seen was some guy used a unisex bathroom at my local bar. It's really just the women's room but is unisex to be Ada compliant for wheel chairs. A regular was explaining this to a guy that used it and she said the men's room is outside right there and he came back with "did she just assume my gender". I thought he was kidding but he kept arguing with her. They eventually got tossed by a bunch of regulars when they started yelling "fuck America" when God bless the USA was playing on the juke box. They were a weird group.
