Rogue was a relatively new cast member compared to Jean, who'd been there since the sixties. She read as younger because there were simply fewer books to read of her, and her nineties character design really had her play up youthful working class southern sweetheart. Most importantly, she was single. Her on again off again flirtations with Gambit never seemed to go anywhere, and she occasionally did entertain the idea of flirting with or dating other men. Unlike Jean, who'd basically been dating/married to Cyclops since the seventies. --- Whatever happened to standards? Gambit and Storm are almost always known by their code names. Jean is almost always Jean, unless referencing the phoenix force (and Marvel Girl is all but forgotten). There are also some factors that can effect it like how often they change code names or how many share the code name (making using their real name less confusing).
