I went for 1 year fresh out of high school and didnt take it seriously then. I stopped showing up to classes the first semester of my second year.

Am I gonna be the weirdo old guy on campus now? Being around a bunch of 18 and 19 year olds? Im super self conscious about that tbh. Im thinking of just doing night classes because I hear more older people do those.

I'm 22 years old and I never went to college. No plans, either.

Maybe I'm delusional but fuck I hope I get a career that doesn't require boring ass college lol

Ive been working in the restaurant business. I serve and bartend. Its great money but the hours suck and I cant remember the last time I got a weekend off.

Ive been working in the industry since I started college. It was always great money so I feel like I got sucked in. I dont wanna be doing this the rest of my life, I figured I need a change.

I'm thinking about taking a basic ASL class to maybe meet some new people.

Idk. I just remember my experience in college at first and it was just a bunch of kids fresh out of high school. Granted I was taking intro classes then, but I feel like Ill stick out like a sore thumb around kids that young lol

No one will care, college isn't like high school where you'll get ridiculed for stupid shit lol

Yes I'm like almost 3 years behind my high school classmates when it comes to college, but who cares. The point is that you go now and do what you want to do. Last semester there was a 40 something year old dude in my class, nobody cared lol

Nobody cares about your age in college.

I for one think its cool when a middle aged parent goes back to school because all the kids are grown up and out of the house now so he/she finally has the time to go back and pursue their studies.

Made friends with a couple older people like that and they were much more enjoyable than the students my age focused on cramming and playing Fortnite. These older people actually want to learn and that makes it all the more enjoyable.

This is actually how I feel now. When I first attended college, it felt like I just had to be there. Id constantly skip class, not do the work, leave class early, etc.

Now, Im actually motivated to go. I actually wanna do homework, I wanna learn. As weird as it sounds, Im looking forward to having homework and tests again.

I'll be going back to school at 28 after 8 years in the Marines.

I've actually had quite a few classes with vets, like poster above. There are plenty of slightly older people in college, TC. As long as you socialize well (which you should, given your occupation), you'll be fine.

When I went back, I technically wanted to do the homework, but man, I was so not used to doing stuff like that, I completely forgot about it quite a few times before I got back in the groove... >_>

But yeah, I was a year or two younger than you when I went back to finally get an associates, I would say most classes had at least a handful of people around my age, maybe a few more intro-y ones didn't. I took some kind of film class and I was literally the oldest person in the room, including the instructor, lol. That was an exception, though. But anyway, no one really seemed to care, mid-late 20's isn't like being 40 or 50, I blended in well enough, although I just went to class and went home and didn't really socialize.

Don't think of it like that, man. There were plenty of older people when I went to college. I actually got along better with them, than the young ones. Not that I didn't get along with anyone in college, it's just that the older folks seemed more geniune, approachable and they actually wanted to be there.
