Of course, nothing's really preventing the students from organizing it off campus.

Yeah, I can't really fault the school for shutting down a sponsored club if the kids are going to go get shitfaced and do outdoor activities.

Like obviously college kids drink, but there is a difference between them getting drunk and going rock-climbing on their own and going rock-climbing with the support of the school and then getting drunk while doing it. The latter is a major liability.

Workplaces can be the same way. The more students/employees show they can't function right without supervision, the more restrictions they have. A few can mess it up for a large group.
