For all the bull shit the far left spews about how the richer are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer, they'd definitely be fine with the poor being poorer as long as the rich are made less rich via regressive redistribution of earned wealth. The outcomes of attempting socialism and communism have always in the long run resulted in equal starvation and poverty.

The far left doesn't actually care about solving poverty. That is why they frame their perspective in terms of gaps between the top and the bottom, rather than in terms of whether or not the standard of living has gone up for everyone in general.

You can have no gap in income between people and yet have an awfully shitty country. Whereas you can increase everyone's income regardless of gaps and have a great standard of living.

If you were to double everyone's income right now, the far left would still spew their bullshit about the gap even though doubling everyone's income would instantly allow people at the bottom to buy more of what they need. When you frame this in terms of the gap, no amount of progress in standard of living ever matters unless you eliminate the income or the wealth gap. Which is absurd.

At the end of the day, capitalism is still demonstrably increasing the standard of living for the greatest number of people. And it will continue to do so until poverty doesn't exist anymore. That idea scares the far left radicals who are desperate to implement Marxism, which is why they are dishonest on topics like poverty. They need others to take for granted the idea that gaps in income are inherently bad, otherwise they have no real argument.

I have noticed without a doubt that all things being equal, taking from the rich carries greater weight than boosting incomes for everyone else. That is why they have become so brainwashed that they literally oppose tax cuts across the board, even though they help most people.

There is some merit to the idea that cutting taxes too much is bad, because then social programs that are needed won't have enough funding. But I do agree that the fear mongering about the recent tax cuts was strong evidence of what you're talking about.

In any case, I'd definitely side with the people who want to increase everyone's opportunities / incomes rather than the people who want to steal what I earned and give it to people who didn't earn it.

They're not doing anything about it because those who have it all, want to keep it all. Lobbyism being at an all time high makes it hard for legislators to enact bills that will favor the poor instead of the rich.

My parents were poor farmers in a 3rd world country that collapsed due to socialism. They didn't even finish high school. I'm the first person in my family to finish high school and college. And my first job was in construction for minimum wage.

It has never been easier to become wealthy in America. There are more opportunities than ever before.
