However, I didn't get diagnosed until mid-February of 2017. So I had it a good full year and several months before finding out. Constipation never factored into it for me, but it might for others. The typical signs of colon cancer goes like this: a lot of blood in/on your stool (it can be in the stool itself, or the stool can be covered in blood) and just a lot of blood in general, 'thin' stool which look like strips instead of logs, and pain in your lower abdomen/groin.
