-20XX kids jump sooner to electronic entertainment (TV, internet, video games, phones, etc)
-Families mail order stuff more often now, including toys (competitively, Toys 'R' Us was actually NOT one of the cheapest US retailers). -Similar to department stores, walk-in toy stores are rapidly declining due to other means of distribution. -Some "new age" parenting methods basically crap all over the concept of kids bonding with classic types of toys (favorite doll = bad, cell phone = good). -Particularly in the US, some parents are more likely to prioritize other child care expenses over toys (ie: schooling, college fund). I'm sure there's other reasons this store chain is disappearing that have little to do with parenting choices of consumers, but changes in common parental trends do also play a part. For a lot of parents, toys were just a means to occupy kids and shut them up for a while.
