And Superman's not really an out of the box kind of thinker to begin with.

Ha

I mean, he has his moments, but most of his solutions to problems are pretty straightforward.

Superman would not be able to make good use out of the ring.

Why not?

He is literally a grown man that believes in Christmas.

He's got the willpower and imagination that makes Hal Jordan look like a stack of cold pancakes.

Hal is the least imaginative Green Lantern, so that's not really saying much.

EDIT: But as far as willpower, lol Hal beats out everybody.

Eh, what about Kyle Rayner?

Hal beats Kyle in willpower, but Kyle far exceeds him in imagination.

Being creative is not a requirement for lanterns. It can help, but it's not needed. Of the Earth lanterns only Kyle is particularly creative. Hal makes a lot of beams, bubbles, and boxing gloves. John's are either architecture based or military-themed. Guy likes his sports-themed ones.

To be fair...
John uses his to make marines
Guy uses his to make sports equipment
Kyle uses his to make mechs and samurais

They all just make constructs based on their interests and life experiences.

Yeah but in that scene a bridge was collapsing and Hal instinctively went for the damsel in distress.

Sinestro holds him back until he starts panicking and saying everyone will die.

Sinestro tells him to shut up and watch and uses his ring to save everyone and hold the bridge intact.

Yeah but Kyle and John's constructs are far more interesting.

Kyle is an artist, so his constructs are a lot more unorthodox and creative. John is a construction worker, so his constructs are complex and detailed.

Hal.....makes giant boxing gloves.

On that topic, Speedy asked Ollie once what it was with him and Hal and boxing gloves.

Apparently it's literally just that they were both huge boxing fans, lol.

Why doesn't Superman just wait for crime to happen, spin the world back in time like in the movie, and then apprehend the criminals before they commit the crime?

Kinda off-topic but you should read The Minority Report by Philip K Dick. If you've deen the movie, it's pretty different from the short story and you should read the original since it rules.

Anyway, Superman can't do that lol. It's fun to see all the superpowers tht people make up for one-time use like Superman's Masonry vision in I think it was Superman 2.

I dont think Superman would follow the rules of the Lantern Corps or even recognize their authority over him. At most, Superman has been used by several writers to advance stories that saw him serving under the US President, which generally worked by exploiting his ties to his American upbringing.

I don't think Superman would make a good long term lantern because at some point his own morals will inevitably come into conflict with the oath and he will absolutely abandon the ring at the point. He can probably stick out with Green or Blue the longest but eventually I'm sure something will happen that causes him to choose between the ring and his own personal code.

Batman OTOH already made the choice before he even got the ring and that's why he's not a lantern.

Only because he doesn't need to use creativity. A big theme of Supes is that he's considerably more powerful than he often lets on.

I read a comic called "JLA Age of Wonder" which was a What-If that took place in the 1870s and explored what might happen if baby Kal-El landed in the U.S. after the Civil War. In it he's offered a ring, gives it to Hal, who is betrayed and killed by Luther like 10 years later and he asks the ring to go back to Superman. Then Superman uses the ring/lantern to inaugurate the "Justice League of Nations" ushering in an era of peace and prosperity to the world
