Hulu offers live sports. Its a $40 package. Still a shit ton cheaper than most cable providers.

For the people that have 3-5 streaming services and that's it. How much do you pay to get the internet to you house? And what company does that?

An honest question, just curious.

It's insane how big a price different cable and a streaming service is.

I was paying just about 200 dollars a month for internet and cable. Internet alone was 60, so cable is basically 140 dollars for one month.

Netflix is like what, 12 bucks or something?

140 dollars.

12 dollars.

That's almost 12 times as expensive.

Is this really such a mystery? It's cost. If they came out with a 10 dollar cable plan, then I'd buy it. But it's not 10 dollars. It's 140 dollars. The price difference is so astronomical that it's mind blowing, really.

Netflix doesn't have new episodes of non-Netflix shows. Hardware problems are up to you to fix.

Comparing Netflix alone to cable is very disingenuous.

And cable doesn't have Netflix shows, so what's your point? They're both giant clumps of tons of show and movie content, they should be comparable. You could totally just have one of them and be happy.

And hardware problems? It's just an internet connection and a TV. :\

I already went through this with my previous post. Internet is 60 bucks. Cable on top of that is an extra 140. Just sticking with internet and any number of streaming services is still cheaper, while being more fulfilling as well.

i love how companies complain about millennials instead of, I dunno, adapting to their taste?

Not that I like defending cable companies, but the other side can be entitled brats in their own right. Bawking about scheduled shows, ads, and any cost higher than $12 a month (notice how people aren't factoring in the cost of the internet plan into things) makes it sound like the millennial business model is everything I want for free.

Hard to make a living doing that.

Neither of those are unreasonable.

Sorry, but I'm an old fart that remembers 3 channels on a black and white set being TV for all but the rich, so this idea that having to see a show at a certain time (or use some kind of recorder) is some kind of horror is seriously foreign to me.

It's the only reason I have cable. I have Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Video subscriptions, Crunchyroll and it's still cheaper than what I pay for cable. The only time I watch cable is for the news and sports.

The customer decides how they spend their money. You certainly don't have to adapt to their wants but prepare to lose business. Millennials are entitled sometimes, yes. But cable companies are more entitled but acting like it's their right to have us as customers and take our money for a product we don't want.

To make money they need to supply a product/service that people want, instead of playing the victim. You aren't entitled to our money and we aren't responsible for your living.

Those saying it's cheaper to stream...it's sometimes not. The savings are so minimal that the inconvenience is not worth dumping cable over.

I'll use myself as example since I pay a pretty high monthly cable bill ($210). This is for Comcast/XFinity and includes their fastest internet...pretty much every channel including NFL Redzone...and a landline (not that I use it).

So doing the math, let's say I sign up for Hulu, Netflix and Sling which would give me a comparable channel listing compared to my current cable package.

Hulu = $10
Netflix = $10
Sling = $60

Then you need the internet itself which is $100 if you get the same internet by itself from Comcast.

Then the monthly modem fee which is $10. Sure you can buy your own modem but most people don't do that.

I'm already up to $190 not including the taxes. I'm not sure if it's really worth it to dump cable to save $20 a month...but I'll let you guys decide.

Alright so again...you're saving $40 a month maybe. So a $1.03 a day.

Cable definitely has become a "luxury" item these days. It's expensive and you're paying for convenience more than necessity.

Why would i pay to watch advertisements and nonstop reruns? My old cable company offered a free month to try and get me to sub again, and the very first show i saw was the very last episode i saw before i cut my cable years ago. Atrocious. Doesnt help that the cost is ludicrous.

I'd lose alot of local sports channels and that's a big dealbreaker.

Mets games are only shown on SNY and no other service offers that channel.
The Knicks are only shown on MSG and no other service offers that.

So the sports availability is a huge convenience for me. Instead of having to go on Reddit and find a stream.

That monthly rate is for 2 years. I've been a customer of theirs for 5 years now. When I initially moved I was paying $170 a month for the same package. But sadly that introductory pricing is no longer offered...even when I threaten to cancel or downgrade my service.

I had a similar package with Showtime-HBO and NFL redzone. That package now sits at monthly charges over $300.
