Like we are literally living in a time where we can get everything and anything at anytime for our entertainment and happiness

Its never been so easy to interact and be social

Yet, apparently it is not

It's more that in the third world they have to focus on problems like finding clean water.

Plus, if/when you solve that kind of problem, it's hard to be sad tbh.

It occurs everywhere, but underdeveloped countries aren't as aware of it.

No. First world countries are simply better at diagnosing it and identifying it than poorer countries.

The above post is literally and objectively right.

Ain't got time to be sad if every day is a struggle to survive.

I think people just seem to feel like they have no purpose, or are somewhat forced to work in careers that don't suit their skills or personality which leads to depression and things of that sort. Now if you're talking people being crazy with wild mental health problems, that's probably everywhere

If you look at some of these poor countries, you'd think it would be "easy to interact" and "be social" yet people spend the majority of their time addicted to drugs, killing other people etc.

Call it what you will

Yes and no. Depression is much more complicated than you realize before you experience it yourself. It refers to two separate conditions--a mental/emotional disorder and an actual emotion, and the reason there's no better terminology for differentiating them is because the actual process of distinguishing them from each other is so fuzzy. In a way, they're the same thing and in another way they're not.

Circumstances like you describe can result in depression but there's also a medical cause, and from my experience sometimes the interaction between the two can be complicated.

Used to be that people with mental illness would be royalty and they'd send thousands to their death to combat the ocean. Now they just loiter on the streets and throw piss at people.

It's the only socially acceptable one that people are comfortable talking about. Yeah you can come out and say you've been depressed, people won't be too rough about that. But I can't really be open in real life about having had multiple psychotic episodes throughout my life.

This topic is incredibly dumb though.

I think when a society is soft, it's easier to notice mental health problems because people are less distracted by having to meet baser needs. Hardship will often motivate people, and things like anxiety are defeated by doing rather than thinking.
