GC and UYA are the pinnacle of ps2-era platformers imo. They're a perfect marriage of every brand of 3D platformer up to that point

The only real complaint I have about the series is that it seemed to peak too early, and on top of being designed for multiple playthroughs, led to later games all kinda blending together in my mind because they didn't really have anywhere to evolve to. By the second or third game they pretty much just totally nailed things so well that best they could do is keep making games like that. And that they did.

Personally I think A Crack in Time rivals the OG trilogy in terms of quality.

But I do kinda miss the original Ratchet from the first game. He was a huge ass for like the first 75% of the game and had completely different motivations from Clank and it made him seem like a real character. After that he was turned into like a "hey buddy lets save the world. Nobody can stop us cause we're good guys!" kinda character which was annoying.

I can definitely agree with this; they tried to switch things up a bit with Deadlocked, which, while still quite good, was nowhere NEAR the previous two titles. So they... just kinda went back to hitting it outta the park with the old formula. Can't complain too much as the Future games are of superb quality, as is R&C PS4, though I felt it was lacking in replay value compared to older titles, and the decision to tie it in to a doomed movie adaptation kinda dicked the possibility of further re-imaginings.

You can chalk that up to people complaining about Ratchet being an asshole in the first game. But I'd much rather have that Ratchet than the Pixar movie shit in the PS4 version.

ACIT is a definite triumph of the series as well, and doubly so for arriving at a time when this kind of game was really out of vogue.

ACIT is great too. It had the best art direction by far. Ratchet looks fantastic in that game compared to the fluffy Pixar idiot he is now.

Size Matters is also worth playing. It's apparent that it only existed to try to boost PSP sales/recognition, but it's a fun game with plenty of collecting and explosives to offer

3 was almost as great as 2, but it was a bit too linear, and the hacking minigame was just absolutely horrible.

I feel like the PS4 reboot is... I dunno. It just feels soulless, and the story is awful compared to the original.

Agreed. The third one sort of bought into its own hype about the game being about the crazy wacky weapons when it was really more of a platformer game. So we got at least two arena worlds and multiple instances of multiplayer maps and objectives being used in the single-player.

psychonauts is the best platformer of that era, but the ratchet games are right behind

the future games are kind of disappointing because the sudden emphasis on giving ratchet and clank some significant backstory and "destiny" was just completely embarrassing and a huge mistake

also the first game still has the best music
