Played a couple of the DS ones and didn't like the fact that you can't see your characters during the fights, but the character customization itself was fun. Don't care much for the dungeon crawling either, though.

I'm still playing 3, but I knew I would love the series before I even played it so I bought all the 3DS games (except Mystery Dungeon)

I just started the fifth stratum, but my characters are already pushing 60. I grinded materials too much before I got Lucky Hammer haha

It's quite amusing to "do it wrong", and grind until FOEs can be taken down.

Yeah.

Dont be afraid to take a break and come back in a few days or weeks. The level of challenge varies from engaging to brutal depending on the game(unless you do picnic mode on the Untold games or abuse DLC too hard in V. The first three games dont have difficult settings and IV and V still wreck your shit if you get lazy or complacent on the basic difficulty)

Its not the kind of game you play ten minutes on the bus.

Sure it is, if you're doing gather-farm runs.

I tried the first one and the concept was interesting, but I got frustrated and stopped.

The first two(and the third to a lesser extent) are a lot more frustrating than the 3DS games due to more archaic design, early installment weirdness, bad U.I, greater amount of bugs, more limitations in party building etc.

The 3DS games are a lot less frusturating. More polished, better U.I, difficulty settings, more transparency on how certain things
work etc.

They still retain a solid difficulty level, and the build a Party, dungeon crawling mapping gameplay but the new games are much easier to enjoy than the first two in particular.

tbh, one of my favorite things about EO is going in unprepared, getting your shit pushed in, and then figuring out how to make your party better

I only own a DS but I own all 3 Etrian Odysseys. Part 3 is my favorite.

I love dungeon crawlers, talking about this makes me want to replay "Fall of the dungeon guardians."

There is an part 4 and 5 on 3DS plus remakes of the first two.

Also two Mystery Dungeon spinoffs(second is japan only ATM) an upcoming game which is basically a crossover of all five EO games and a persona game with Etrian Odyssey gameplay(a second one is coming)

It has become a Atlus third biggest internally developed series(second technically as Persona and SMT are technically both part of the overall Megami Tensei)
