Product reviews - "package arrived late and with a dent in it - 1 star"

Recipe reviews - "This recipe is great - instead of tomatoes I used carrots and instead of bacon I used tofu. Also didn't fry it, I baked it - 5 stars"

Restaurant reviews - "The food was delicious and arrived quickly. The staff were attentive and friendly and everything was reasonably priced. However the table sitting next to me were loud and obnoxious. Disappointed there were no pasta options at this Japanese place - 2/5"

This shit gets me so angry

Dude, that's the shipping company's fault, or amazon's fault, or the courier's fault. When you write an online review you're reviewing whoever makes the product and the product itself.

Yup, this. Also, aside from a few very specific items, how much of an inconvenience to your life is a package arriving a day or two later than desired?

Writing a bad amazon review for a late product is a bit like punching the bar staff because one of the patrons touched your girlfriend's ass.

The first one was reasonable though? If I paid for something I would want it to arrive in timely fashion and in mint condition especially if the item are expensive.

Yes, but that doesnt tell people anything about the quality of the product, or even the company that made it, except that maybe they've partnered with a bad shipping company (which is usually a monopoly, like UPS/FedEx, or else not something they got to choose like if they sell through Amazon), so its useless info for the consumer

Of course you would, but if it doesn't then the responsible party is the company that shipped it. Almost no company handles their own shipping from door to door, and they can't be expected to manage every part of that process when it changes hands. You should be writing Fedex a shit review, not the mom and pop store that made your t-shirt.

The problem here is that when you write a bad review like this you're actively hurting the business that sent out your package as promised and you're doing absolutely no damage at all to the people that actively fucked up your shit.

Actually you are right, the first part is not the store's fault, it should have been 3/5 stars. But for the damaged item part, it is mostly the store fault for not doing the packaging properly. For example Amazon is not very good at their packaging, they sometimes just shove the item in a bag and called it a day, which causes some item they sent me damaged.

You are rating the entire process. I would also give them a low rating if their customer support was trash, even if the product was great.

I think the main problem TC is bringing up is that online reviews are, generally, moving goalposts. Youre reviewing the whole process, and thats fine and dandy, but Im just trying to figure out the best product to get, or the easiest company to do business with. I dont care much at all for speed of shipping or if a box is dented as long as my product survives (never been delivered a broken item yet). It makes online shopping a generally frustrating experience

I'm not quite sure they can help that. And that has little to do with the app itself.

It has a lot to do with the app. If you sign up to watch some anime your mate suggested but find out its blocked for a reason as dumb as you are in a different country, that is one shitty app

I mean you can watch whatever anime without signing up at all, and as soon as you go onto the page it tells you it's not available in your country. I'm not sure there's a better or more direct way to do that, and I'm not sure what your expectations are but I think it's pretty amazing that you can get an entire library of anime for free instantly.

Region locking is an unfortunate by product of DRM. I believe Crunchyroll have voiced their disapproval of it in the past. It hurts their business model after all.

I would imagine so. What company wouldn't want to spread their influence and reach as far as possible, especially when, as a streaming service, their costs are significantly less than if they had to deliver some kind of physical product?

It's more likely that companies that licence their anime out are strict about these requirements. It's like when companies threatened action against Netflix if they didn't step down harder on VPNs and other ways to bypass geoblocking. Until then, they only half-heartedly blocked and did so with a wink and a nudge, but after a certain point it was risking losing shows to alternatives like Hulu.

It has nothing to do with the app, and everything to do with licensing restrictions. The rights to air a show in different regions of the world costs money. If Crunchy hasn't bought the rights to what you want to see in your part of the world, they can't legally show it to you.

That doesnt change the fact it reflects negatively on crunchyroll.

1) they support this DRM by agreeing to the terms at all
2) doesnt change the fact that shows are missing based on country

You can argue all you want, but the customer doesnt care nor should they about a businesses reason for fucking them.

If Crunchyroll didn't agree to the terms of their business arrangements, they would have no business partners and no content at all to provide to subscribers. No business can make money (for long) illegally distributing product.

Yes they are. Which means if you are outside the US, there may be another option that would suite you better than Crunchyroll.

The idea of sites like crunchyroll is to be a "one stop shop". Nobody wants to have a crunchyroll sub and a netflix sub and a hulu sub and a stan sub and 10 other subs. Its the reason people hate things like uplay. People will revert to illegal means when its made difficult to consume content legally.

This, review the seller and the products question in the appropriate section, I've had broken products where the seller still got a great review because of how they handled it and I've great products where the seller still got **** ratings for their part in proceedings.

There was a craft beer review site I used to go to called Beeradvocate and I swear to god half of the reviews on the beers on the site were something along the lines of "I WOULD NEVER DRINK THIS AGAIN" but they would give it 3 or 4 out of 5 stars as a rating. They completely overhauled their reviews and deleted a bunch a few years back so I think they figured out the problem
