Hello there, y'all got recommendations on any good universities?
The more and more I get attached to my dream school USNA, the more I have to deal with the crushing fact that I may not be able to get in :'(

So I've been looking other places:
I know this sounds silly, but I want to get in something prestigious, something that's hard to get into.
I'd love to go to school in Texas, just because I'd wanna move their someday :V

I was thinking about applying to Texas A&M. My older brother goes to college in Mississippi and he told me that schools like those don't accept black people often :V nevertheless I'm going to apply!

Another one is Rice University, this one genuinely interests me. Said to be the top school in Houston, certainly one of the leading STEM schools, and who can forget that the best president JFK gave his famous speech there

A teacher who knows me well believes I have a real chance of getting into Upenn or Duke :P

What do you guys think? as you can see my list is p short D:

That's what, 5 universities? That's not too bad of a number. Rice is a good school. Look into Texas Tech, maybe?

I'm not a fan of recommending schools off the bat without knowing more about your student profile. Just be sure to dedicate your time to exploring these schools, their student life, their academic offerings, and career development programming. I chose to make an excel spreadsheet to track all the schools I was debating.

Oh how could I forget to list colleges in my own birth city, Baltimore? My principal personally recommended that I go to University of Maryland (Baltimore county I think) because they had great science courses. Plus I may be able to get that sweet in-state discount since I have a lot of family down there

On another note, my dad's planning to move to Georgia, so if anyone schools in Georgia or the south east would be a good plus

Long story short, I had a rocky start. My first year was kinda bad gradewise, second year was mediocre but at the same time I switched over to a more challenging charter school,
I've been having an academically great third year so far. On track to getting a 4.0 gpa or near, and I'm taking very rigorous courses next year, AP and dual enrollment and all

I'm hoping my earlier years won't hold me back as much but I still feel like it's too late to turn things around and get into a good school D:

But thank you for the advice, I'll have to try that excel sheet planning!

I recommend you focus more on the subject(s) matter you'd want to endeavor in and the respective faculty of institutions you're looking at. Sometimes, depending on academic subjects you're interested on, it'd be more productive to attend a place that has a solid faculty in the subject of interest. While prestige is important, so is the faculty you'll be working with in developing your skills in your subject of interest. Moreover, it may prove fruitful to build a network with faculty who are experts/prestigious in your field of interest. I hope you come to a proper conclusion to your inquiry.

P.S. Work on your writing, albeit it's a net forum, it's better to express oneself as clear and precise as possible. It can't hurt, unlike being mediocre at it.

Lol. Yeah I'm not a strong writer, but I'll certainly improve on it, especially for essays and all

How does one judge a faculty of an institution?
