Just shut off the ballista. Is there anything else to do here? Seems like it was just a big loop with some item collecting. Feels a bit too empty, like I missed something.

reading the walkthrough, fighting the boss is supposed to be the last thing you do, which is weird because i ran right by the worm and took him out first. Seems like I covered everything. What a stupid area.

There's a ring behind a rock only the ballista can take out. Other than that it's just that boss.

for the most part, I like Smouldering Lake, but the enemy crabs are lame, IMO.

out of all the enemies in the game, they feel out of place, IMO.

I think you're supposed to go down into the Demon Ruins-y part first even though the other entrance requires you to be standing in a certain spot so the ballista opens the path. The other entrance feels more like an exit since the bonfire is right before a boss.

There's alot of pyromancy related shit in the Demon Ruins area.

The worm drops a miracle, Horace is down there to continue Anri's questline, there's a boss and there's few rings hidden around.

May not be too worth it if you're playing as a mage but for pyromancers sure.

Basically Smouldering Lake is the kind of place the devs underestimated how brave the players would be. They thought we'd see the worm and go "lol nope" and wander around for another way and stumble on the breakable floor, but it seems like pretty much everyone put on their big boy pants that day and just rushed the worm.

Yeah I don't know if it was intended. But there's an easy way to cheese the worm by using the ballista. There's a little hill on the floor where the worm won't hit you and ballista hits the lip of the hill so you're completely safe. And you just wait until the ballista kills the worm.

Everything there is extremely weak to dark though. So it's not really so bad if you have a good means of doing dark damage.

Yeah, that's what I did sort of instinctively. Which is kinda why I was confused lol. Turning off the ballista was literally the last thing I did. I even collected all the items in the open field the ballista was firing into first. So shutting it off basically accomplished nothing for me, and there wasn't a path beyond the ballista, so It was just a matter of turning back and leaving the area. Lame.
