I disagree with all of this.

The movie provides small bits of development for otherwise minor character and it elaborates somewhat on the lore, but for the most part, you can do without it. I watched the movie after beating the game and I somewhat regret it. No matter what you do, the first half of the game isn't as coherent as the second half, but it will all eventually come together.

The game is awesome. I'm not a fan of the series, but XV has me researching the other games and I've just started playing VII because of it. The villain is probably one of my favorites in video games, period.

Just make sure you're playing the Royal Edition(and ideally, the Windows edition at that) and you should be good. I didn't play it at release.

It added a ton of cutscenes and whatnot. I'm not sure if it's a fullblown expansion or what, but I was watching the game on stream before I actually played it and you could pretty much tell who played the game on release and who didn't. Seems to make a night-and-day difference.
