I was talking to an oncologist yday and he was explaining the mechanism that I wont go into detail with, but part of it is the actual byproduct of alcohol degradation (we all know this) and the other part is an indirect upregulation of pro-cancer proteins. (I didn't know this)

He was saying the risk is 3-fold. The risk of tobacco is 10-fold. And when combined, the risk is 100-fold.

And because of the second mechanism he described, he thinks its prolly more related to frequency rather than the volume you drink.

Just so you guys are aware.

We can suspect that certain things cause cancer but theres not usually good data to back up those claims.

But in this case, tobacco and alcohol are heavily studied.

Got to die of something.

Also, cancer isn't an automatic death sentence anyway. I was diagnosed over 10 years ago.

You do realize there are different types of cancers and many are automatic death sentences.

So if I get wasted twice a month it's not nearly as bad a drinking a moderate amount 3-4 times a week.
Cool!

Thats the personal opinion of an oncologist but thats only pertaining to cancer risk. Obviously binge drinking rather than drinking in moderation is worse for you in other aspects of your health like for your liver or heart.

I have Alcohol/Asian Flush Syndrome which means that alcohol is much more quickly metabolized to cancerous acetaldehyde and it takes longer for the acetaldehyde to breakdown.

This is why cancer rates are so high in alcoholics in asian countries.
