+ reversible
+ sleek
+ high bandwidth
+ enough power to charge a laptop
+ sexy
+ small form factor

USB-C/Thunderbolt might be the best port ever made. I wonder if anything will succeed it other than some standardized magnet/wireless solution, or long range wireless

You do understand that thunderbolt is a totally different thing from USB type c and it is Intel proprietary while USB c is not, right?

Thunderbolt 3.0 has significantly higher bandwidth than USB C. Additionally, USB c devices use universal drivers and device identification requests. Thunderbolt uses only Intel drivers but as a result it has significantly advanced functionality and can support devices that USB can't such as video output and can access the motherboard bus to provide modular hardware extension as if the device was part of the system itself for much greater performance.

Tl;Dr
Thunderbolt = more powerful, more functional, Intel proprietary, not widely supported
USB c = less powerful, open standard, backwards compatible with type A, generally just does what type A does but faster.

Are thunderbolt ports compatible with Type C adapters? This is the most important thing.

you can go from a Type-C device to a Thunderbolt port with an adapter. You cannot go from a thunderbolt to Type-C port.

USB-C and Thunderbolt 3 use the same connection, no adapter needed. I think some of the disconnect here is you're thinking of older Thunderbolt.
