Not really. We don't have any claws, horns or venom. We're fairly slow and weak compared to a lot of animals. We're just another species trying our best to survive like all the others are doing.

Also, I would hope scientists would preserve DNA for cloning or something down the line if possible. I dunno science. I am not a scientist, but I feel it might be possible some day.

The rhino doesn't have to die for that. But, since rhino-horn trade is almost entirely illegal, the only supply chain is poachers who have no incentive to keep the rhinos alive, but instead have a black market that gets even more lucrative as rhinos become increasingly rare.

I feel like I've been hearing about this species being endangered my entire life. How much more energy can go towards this? When your species population is down to 3 -- one male and his two daughters -- there is not going to be a happy ending to the story.

Preserve their DNA in case we get some realistic Jurassic Park technology someday and let the other two die in peace.

I dont think the population has been over 500 in almost 50 years now. This is unfortunate, but I dont think this species was going to survive whether humans poached them or not. Its sad that biodiversity was ever so slightly reduced. That being said, think of all the wasted resources used trying to prop this dying species up the last 30-40 years. How many people could have been helped with the money spent on these animals?

Along with the tragedy of losing these majestic animals, park rangers also get killed by poachers sometimes. The financial incentive is a pretty big one for these impoverished criminals. I doubt you can stop them completely, if the demand from places like China and Vietnam never stops.

Legalize the rhino-horn, ivory, and tiger penis trade, and farms will emerge along with an inevitable race-to-the-bottom that prices poachers out, while providing a financial incentive and distribution system to protect the animals from the few poachers that would remain.

It's well-intentioned attempts to ban those that created a lucrative black market for poachers.

But certainty and swiftness can deter crime though

So if people are more certain to be punished for poaching, theyll be less likely to do it.
Problem is that theyre getting away with it so the certainty isnt there

"Farm" can also be interpreted to mean "ranch".
Maybe there's commercial use for the rest of the rhino (or elephant, or tiger), if the farmer doesn't want to wait for the horn to regrow (or tusks, but good luck regrowing a penis).
