It's stupid that the average person is probably worried about automated cars unless they completely eliminate auto accidents. Who cares if there would be less accidents than with human error? At least I know a human isn't a robot!

Im curious to know the information behind this and why the driver for safety didnt stop the vehicle. Sounds like she darted out and got hit. Im super pro automated cars just for what it would mean for traffic alone. I get it takes away a bit of individualism but if my morning commute is 35 minutes instead of 85 minutes Im fine with having my car do the work.

Autonomous cars and its technology is still in its infancy. Casualties are inevitable. I dont understand the outrage. Humans behind the wheel still kill others on the streets. Shouldn't we ban humans behind the wheel? The difference here is that robots can still be improved and with humans... this is as good as it gets.

It's the whole concept of "giving away agency."

Even if we make more mistakes overall, the fact that we retain the ability to act allows us to think "we can be more careful next time, we can learn from our mistakes, we can do something to avoid a tragic accident." But with a machine, you give your trust entirely to that machine, which makes mistakes stand out more in our mind.

Until i can take public transport from wherever i want, to whereever i want, with very little to no planning required, auto-cars will always be the ideal future of the transport industry. I wouldnt care about taking a bus if they actually existed...
And driving myself there is a waste of time. 1 hour of my life a day i could be doing anything else. But no, self driving cars are horrible apparently.....
