granted, all my knowledge of this comes from mainstream American media

white people have lived in South Africa since more than a century. since at least the 1800's. they weren't always oppressed. these are just the descendants of people from the past. they were born there.

What I don't get is the sudden decision to start going after whites in South Africa. Right at the end of the apartheid regime or immediately thereafter I could get it. But it's been 24 years ffs. I'm guessing it has to do with not having Mandella there to restrain them.
