Prehistoric Turtlesaurus

What a great game. I still have both the origial and the remake. Maybe I'll pop the SNES version in again this weekend.

The best thing about the elevator in that level was that first wave that all comes out at once and you can take them all out at once.

I got incredibly good at tossing enemies into the screen. You know you can't do that in the Genesis version of the game?

His attack power was insane, especially for his special. But he dies in so few hits...

The way they play is way different. Donatello was a beast because of how much range his bo staff gave him. I always had the highest score when playing as Donatello.

Wait, then how do you beat the boss after the elevator? I thought throwing enemies into the screen was a part of beating that boss... Unless I'm remembering it incorrectly...

My understanding of it was this:

Leo = balanced attack and defense
Mikey and Don were in the middle, with Don having superior reach, but lower attack than Mikey.
Raph = Faster, stronger, less reach, less defense

It's an exclusive level to the SNES version, meaning that it's not present in the Genesis game. The Genesis game's levels play out a lot differently. There are multiple transitions per stage that take you to different areas in the same stage. Alleycat Blues transitions into the sewers for a fight with Leatherhead, for instance.

In the SNES version, it's the only way to damage him.

Also, note that the 'throwing enemies into the screen' mechanic in the SNES version was a product of the Mode 7 that the SNES had, meaning that there was no way to replicate it on the Genesis. That's why the Shredder boss fight in the Technodrome was absent in The Hyperstone Heist.

The Genesis version is a good game in its own right. It has a deeper edge to the sound track, and the gameplay is faster. The graphics and sound quality are a bit more muddy compared to the SNES game, as was true of nearly all Genesis games.

Definitely had more bass to its backbone. Great for rock and metal-sounding songs, though the SNES was no slouch in that regard, either.

Nah, Id say throwing the foot soldiers at Shredder was far worse. My brother and I spent like 30 minutes mindlessly fighting foot soldiers until one of us accidentally threw one into Shredder. Even then the combo wasnt easy to pull off.

My friend and I tried to find a Gameshark code to have infinite continues, to set the lives to just one. That way we could switch turtles after every death, and end the game with both having played all four turtles.
Never got to find that code, despite entering the right numbers multiple times. We only got to find lives codes.
In the end, we ended up just setting the continues to the max, lives to 1 (0 extras), and play that way.
We ended up playing always in hard mode, rushing through the stage instead of inching slowly, to make as many enemies appear at once. Wasting "Pizza Times" (healing) and "Pizza Power" (invincible spinning attack), and being reckless, and we still always finished it, playing all four turtles at least once.

It's weirs but the poor quality of vocals actually added a lot to the game.
