I've been very slowly playing these in order.

I beat 1 and 2 over the last few years on Steam
Bought The Oath in Felghana over the last Steam sale after reading it was a remake of 3.

But next would be 4 and I am lost at this point lol.
I see it has 2 games (Mask of the Sun and The Dawn of Ys) with Japanese only releases.

Are the Japanese releases the only way to play these games?

Dawn of Ys the better of the two games. I imported the actual turbo CD disc and ran it on an emulator and patched in the fan translation

Memories of celceta on Vita is the actual Ys 4 though as it was actually made by falcom

mask of the sun was the one that used to be canon, but dawn is considered better.

celceta is pretty fun, but blargh they completely ruined the plot by writing it more like a legend of heroes game.

I nearly had a vita 2 years ago for 40 bucks. Long story short, darn Target.
