Tried out the threaded cane, not really my thing. But the kirkhammer is amazing. Untransformed makes easy work of those werewolves on the bridge, (so long as they're separated somewhat) and transformed is just amazing for crowd control. Allowing a group to run at me and timing the smash just right is hilarious. This is the weapon I'm gonna stick with.

Something to keep in mind is, in Bloodborne, there's (counting DLC) 26 weapons. Saw Cleaver and Saw Spear share an untransformed moveset, Kirkhammer shares an untransformed moveset with another weapon you can find a badge to buy a little later. Everything else is unique, and one of those 26 weapons is technically more like two weapons depending on if you have this other thing equipped or not as it entirely changes the transformed and untransformed moveset.

So if you ever do want to experiment more there's still quite a lot to see.

Ok so after fiddling around with my level 147 guy, I figured out that I'm in the yhar'ghul village/Cathedral or whatever after killing the slug boss guy, and there's lovecraftian giants hugging the buildings.

I really need to go back and practice, I'm too used to dark souls 3 combat again, was getting my ass kicked I'm so rusty.

I went with Threaded Cane on my first run and had to make a new character with Hunter's Axe after a few hours. Damn thing keeps hitting walls when you're trying to do crowd control.

Ludwig's Holy Blade is like a better version of Kirkhammer imo. Their un-transformed modes are both basic longswords, but the transformed LHB has much more reach than Kirkhammer's and is a little faster, I think. Plus there's the ridiculously good scaling with Strength, Skill, and Arcane.

My most recent build was arcane with a fire cane and an arcane Logarius Wheel and it was a blast.

Don't be that guy.

And imo I would always go with the Saw Spear over the Cleaver. But I prefer skill damage because it also substantially increases the amount of damage you can do with a visceral. Also, you can also visceral by hitting an enemy with a full charged R2 from behind. It's great for sneaking up on an enemy.

Nice. Well, beat that game! Its funny, I rarely beat games more than once, but that certainly changed with BB. Got the plat and ended up beating NG+6 ASAP. Played the hell out of DS2 after, then plat and over 2,000 hours (mostly PvP) in DS3

Well, that's also has you get most of your upgrade materials. And they are more useful than putting points into str or skill early. You can have a +2 weapon before Gas if you want. Hell a +3 If you feel like farming wolves bit

Rolling with a strength build. Decided it was time to commit to a playstyle, and slow, heavy weapons just feel right. The stagger ability of the transformed kirkhammer is great, and untransformed it does a decent job of handling speedier enemies like dogs or crows.

Ok, am I going insane or does this game lag sometimes? You know that bit in the beginning, the street with the mob around the fire? When I'm up on the pathway to the left and look down there, I can see a real obvious drop in frames. Maybe it's because there's like ten enemies on the screen all at once, idk.

Edit

After Googling I've learned that lag is a thing in areas with fire. Glad it isn't just me.

Really? Never noticed any issues there. I did run into trouble though once or twice in an area much later. It was a brief hiccup though.

It's not so severe that it affects my gameplay. It typically clears up after killing a few of the enemies. Problem is it's consistent. Same area, same lag, every time. Like, I don't lag, but I can see the enemies lagging.

The next mandatory boss after Blood-starved Beast is when you get access to the DLC I think, and within the DLC there's a very steady stream of DLC weapons to acquire throughout, all the way to the end.

DLC content is the hardest non-chalice content in the game (though it doesn't start that hard) though so it could prove difficult to get far for your first time the moment you get access.

There is a strength weapon you can get pretty early in though, but it's a toss-up if you'd like it or not. It's sort of like a Heavy Threaded Cane.

I died many, many times in the beginning of the DLC. The entire thing is brutal. As difficult as any chalices imo. I beat NG+7 and the lowest level chalices solo. Couldnt beat some of the DLC bosses solo.

It's accessed once you have that blood-drunk hunter item that should have appeared some time ago in the Dream, and then you go and get grabbed where the tophat was.

You're pretty close, at least in terms of non-optional content. Be warned that the game doesn't let you stay in new game if you beat it, it hurls you straight into NG+, which would be bad if you want to do DLC. Where you're at now would be pretty good of a time to go into it.

Nope.

It might be best to look this up, like "how to access the DLC" as I suppose giving directions is a bit iffy in text.

But...this is spoilery stuff it's best the TC doesn't know: I don't know if you accessed Nightmare Frontier the normal way or not, but it's the same principle here. You get grabbed by one of those Amygdala things you can see now. One tried to grab you when you picked up the top hat. It's just outside the chapel the Cathedral Ward lamp is in.

If so, a shame. It's snazziness is unparalleled. Well, Bloodborne holds some pretty nutty secrets.

After the next boss you kill, it might be worth looking up stuff you missed, so you can still tackle it before finishing the game. Unless you plan on doing a bunch of playthroughs I guess.

With all the trouble the bsb gave me, I just assumed the next boss would also be a nightmare. Turns out vicar amelia is a joke. The game gives you the items needed to stop her from healing prior to the fight, and her moves are way too predictable.

So, after beating her I examined the skull, got a cutscene, and now some enemies are missing and some are, uh, sleeping? I went and found a youtube video and got the whirligig saw. This weapon is dope.

I don't plan to tackle the dlc just yet. Those guys hit hard. I burned through about ten blood vials on the run to the saw.

I tried it out, but it just felt kinda awkward. I did like how it staggered groups, but there wasn't much power behind it.

Also, I need to learn what the difference and meaning is of those stats. Arcane, skill, blood tinge. Far as I can tell right now all they do is raise stats differently from one another.

Arcane, Bloodtinge, Skill and Strength are the 4 weapon stats. Weapons will have stat requirements that include some of them, and also can scale their damage further off one or more of the stats.

Strength is more towards bigger, slower, heavy weapons. Skill is more towards quick and slashy and swift weapons. Bloodtinge deals with guns and a select few weapons. Arcane is basically this game's equivalent to magic, complete with some "spells" that are called hunter's tools you can find, and also some weapons get some scaling off it, and you can later convert the physical damage of a lot of weapons into a magical/elemental damage type, and in doing this make the weapon scale purely off arcane.

Arcane is also "luck" essentially, affecting item drop rates, both if something drops and the quality of the drop. Skill also is the largest contributing stat towards your visceral damage, which is a stupid imbalance but oh well.

While there are exceptions, strength and arcane are usually paired on weapons, and skill and bloodtinge paired on other weapons. For example, someone earlier mentioned a later weapon you can find, Chikage. It's a katana that can be empowered with blood. It is a skill/bloodtinge weapon. Another example you may have seen wielded against you by now is Tonitrus, a mace that can be charged up temporarily with lightning, a strength/arcane weapon.

What I'm getting from this is that I should probably stay away from arcane builds until I get a better handle on the mechanics and other weapons. I guess right now I'd be rolling a strength build. Seems like the whirligig saw uses far more stamina than the kirkhammer.

Once you hit 25 strength it might be worth stopping for awhile to figure out what your plans are. 25 is the first scaling breakpoint for these stats, and will let you meet almost every strength requirement in the game.

Once you hit 25 strength it might be worth stopping for awhile to figure out what your plans are. 25 is the first scaling breakpoint for these stats, and will let you meet almost every strength requirement in the game.

I kinda wanna make a build that utilizes that large cannon I keep seeing everywhere.

There's actually 2, with different stat requirements.

For future reference, the Cannon requires 30 strength and 13 skill to wield. It costs 12 quicksilver bullets to fire. It is an incredibly impractical weapon for most things, though it has a lot of trolling potential in PvP.

There's a cannon in the DLC that is weaker, costs 10 bullets to fire, and requires 27 strength and 16 bloodtinge.

Oh man, I guess there's still a lot left to explore in this game. The forbidden woods is massive, I got some weird tonsil item, and just beat the witch of hemwick. So many places to go.

Turns out lady in the clinic was evil, after all. Managed to beat her fairly easily. Those brainsucker things are damn annoying. Wish I had better stuff to spend insight on, hate having it wasted when those guys steal it.

Opening that shortcut up from the forbidden woods back to the clinic was a pain. Why is poison water a thing?
