I work in manhattan, if I could afford to live in a really nice apartment in a prime area I think I could, easily.

Otherwise, I hate being in manhattan.

Money is the greatest factor by far.
After that it is where you are from, I've always thought that New York is a place that, if you are not an immigrant, is best for people who were born there. Immigrants and first gen citizens are a vital part of New York. As for other born in the US, you either are well qualified and make it, ie money or connections. Or you bank account/trust fund is extinguished during your stint in New York.

I live about three hours North of NYC. I love New York and I love The Hudson River.

I love it. I was born and raised in Queens. It's definitely a different environment from the rest of the country, both good and bad, and it's sometimes hard to explain that to someone from elsewhere. I fucking love it. Here is my post from yesterday's topic about NYC.

Regardless, NYC is definitely not for everybody, but it's definitely the best city so far to me. Nothing has compared in the US at least. Heck, the nearest good comparison is Toronto in Canada.

I've lived in bumfuck upstate NY, NJ, Nassau, and Suffolk, but I could never stay more than 2 weeks away from at least visiting NYC.

i guess so but i live in london, so i kinda understand the money factor. i've been able to live in a big city with little money. i'd say london is worse than nyc in that sense

I don't know my dad is from Brooklyn, and i've been to NYC dozens of times, and i like it, but there are tons of bad things about it too

i've lived in Mass for most of my life, and went to Vermont for college, so cold doesn't bother me.

If i ever left Massachusetts the only places i could see myself living are:

Austin/ San Antonio
Portland, O
Denver
and
NYC (have family there too)

Tbh the best thing about NYC to me is the 24/7 metro. Das it mane. DC metro closing at 12am has been a pain in the rear more than a few times. And Atlanta's metro pretty much doesn't count since it was designed by morons
