The FBI is helping the Austin Police Department investigate two deadly package explosions in less than two weeks.

"We are looking at these incidents as being related based on similarities that we have seen in the initial evidence," interim Police Chief Brian Manley said at a news conference Monday, hours after the explosion in East Austin, which left one teenager dead and another woman with serious injuries.

Manley said both packages were sent to homes of black residents, "so we cannot rule out that hate crime is at the core of this."

A woman at the home was transported Monday to Dell Seton Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, Austin Travis County EMS said. Police evacuated nearby homes and closed several streets in the neighborhood.

The FBI and Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were already investigating an explosion that killed a man at his home in Austin on March 2.

Yeah I know, I live in SE Austin right off the highway. I think they did indicate that it was an explosion for the third one.

They could be randomly targeting houses that just happen to have blacks/hispanics since they are the majority in this area, but who knows. Hopefully they find him soon so we can set up a SXSW booth where the entire city lines up and kicks him in the taint

this is starting to sound like another kaczynski. police believe it's connected to yet another bomb that occurred on march 2nd and claimed the life of Anthony Stephan House.

The three explosions occurred in different parts of east Austin. Monday's first explosion happened at a home near the city's Windsor Park neighborhood and about 12 miles from the home where the March 2 package bomb killed 39-year-old Anthony Stephan House. The March 2 blast was initially investigated as a suspicious death, but is now viewed as a homicide.

I found this;

Officials said the second package blast on Monday happened when the woman opened a package at her house on the 6700 block of Galindo St., initiating the explosion. Police said they received the call about the second explosion around 11:50 a.m.

This appears to confirm that the third blast was also a bomb.

first reply is about crisis actors, smh. i can't imagine it's going to be hard to catch the perp now that word has gotten out and he leaves them on the doorstep himself. hopefully someone saw something that will lead to his quick arrest, though i wouldn't be surprised if someone like this is prepared to go out fighting.

Terrorism has a specific definition. This may fit that definition or not, it is unclear if it is.

It is also unclear if he is specifically targeting minorities since east Austin is majority black/hispanic and could be just random targets.

It is likely one or both definitions will fit one he is caught and a motive becomes apparent, but until then it is dumb to say definitively what it is or isn't.

It could be like that Israeli kid who phoned in multiple bomb threats to synagogues last year, except this perp actually wants to kill. The kid's motive was the media's reaction. The more media coverage, the more threats he made. Since this bomber hasn't released a note explaining his or her motives (despite being active for nearly two weeks), he or she may just want to enjoy the media's coverage of his or her work. Over the past two years, we've had some very strange serial killers get captured. Their MOs weren't typical. Example, the Las Vagas serial killer who was arrested just a few weeks ago for a string of attacks on homeless people.

I'm placing money on the bomber being some out of his mind black militant that's trying to stir up a race war.
