IQ tests (or at least mine) include the following
Working short term memory. This is where the proctor reads aloud an ever-increasing series of numbers in a monotone voice and even rhythm. You then have to repeat the numbers back, repeat them in reverse, or rattle off every number in ascending or descending order (including duplicates). The delivery is what makes this challenging. Anybody can remember 9 numbers given as three sets of three. But 9 numbers given evenly is HARD. Pattern recognition. You're given a series of things, and you say what ought to come next to fit the pattern. Spatial reasoning. You're given a set of blocks, and have to arrange them to fit a plan. Analogy. You're given two very different things, and asked to say how they're similar. Vocabulary. You're asked to define a word. Writing. You're asked to write a "good sentence" that fits some random criteria. It might require a rarely used formulation, a certain word, etc. Math. No calculators, no pen and paper. You're asked stuff about geometry, arithmetic, you can get up to trig, and I even had a question about compounding interest. Math. Harder stuff, still no calculators, but you now get a pen and paper.
