I gave Shadow Tower Abyss' first area, seemed interesting. Hard af obviously. Slow camera & movement speed is a killer though.

Final Fantasy III on the Famicom is decent if you don't count the later DS and other ports of the game. But then that opens the door to stuff like the Final Mixes of Kingdom Hearts and all that so probably not what you're looking for.

Momotarou Densetsu/Gaiden are a couple of Dragon Quest-style RPGs on the Famicom I liked. Sansara Naga as well, which mixes the simplistic DQ-style system with a bit of a dragon training system.

Digital Devil Monogatari: Digital Devil Monogatari I & II released on the Famicom (later released for the Super Famicom on Kyuuyaku Megami Tensei) is the predecessor to the Shin Megami Tensei, so that might be something you like if you like early MegaTen.

Double Moon Densetsu is another okay Dragon Quest clone for the Famicom.

Moon Crystal and Holy Diver a couple of okay Famicom platformers.

If you really love mahjong - and I mean REALLY love it - there's also Mahjong Taisen on the Famicom to look at.

Can't really say much about the PS2 though. Sorry.
