Been trying to lose weight, but gym don't mean anything without proper meals.

I like Salmon and so want to start buying that. Problem is I don't know any good recipes or how to cook it.

I have a Crock-Pot and much prefer it that way.

i normally wrap the fillet around with foil, like a loose parcel, with some olive oil, herbs, garlic and a small bit of chilli. lemon juice helps if you have any. then stick it in the oven

you can also fry it but baking is easier/foolproof

The best way to cook salmon is also one of the lightest ways to cook salmon - pan fry it. The trick is getting the skin crisy and keeping the flesh moist without drying it out.

Basting it with butter as you do it helps but it's slightly less healthy.

I wouldn't do salmon in a crock pot unless you had a stew planned or something.

So basically, a classic salmon recipe would be like:

1. Pat try and season the fish, rub with olive oil.
2. Sear in a hot pan, spoon hot butter over the top to sear it better
3. Blanche asparagus lightly, pat dry then pan fry
4. Serve with crispy or mash potatoes or on a bed of salad.

I'm not comfortable searing at all.

I can cook, but not cook cook. Gonna take a class 1 day, I'd love to know how to sear, grill, and bake chicken along with fish and steak

What seasonings could I use? I was thinking Mrs. Dash lemon pepper seasonings

Ok, in that case do Parappa's method. It's a good and hassle free way to cook salmon.

Crockpots are great but you need to understand their limitations. Cooking things in a sealed wet container at a low heat for a long time is not suitable for all kinds of food that cook quickly and generally ruins any kind of firmer texture you might have been hoping for. That's why it's generally not good for chicken or fish or prime cuts of red meat.

Use your slowcooker for fatty cheap cuts like a pork shoulder or a beef brisket, don't bother if you have something prime like a salmon fillet or a ribeye steak.

If you want to learn how to cook, learn techniques and the "why" of doing things, instead of just following recipes to the letter. You should be constantly looking out for certain reactions (visual or smell or taste or temperature), and not simply timings. For that reason a badly written recipe will say something like "simmer for 10 minutes", whereas a good recipe should say something more like "simmer for a while until the onions turn translucent, about 10 minutes". And then try to find out why onions turning translucent is desirable and what it means.
