Dis is what I woke up to on Sunday. 3 accidents and a shredded roll of TP. Maybe she shredded it while trying to clean up her potty accidents? Oh well, at least she's a cutie.

Nice animal neglect. The dog is clearly distressed and not properly cared for.

About to report this to SPCA....

poo can be picked up, there's a solution you can buy for the urine. it will remove the smell from the carpet. thank god for technological advancement.

If you're not crate training her, are you at least puppy pad training her? I don't know how long you've had her, but having her piss and shit all over the room every right isn't a good start.

This only the second night she's gone on the floor, in the 6 weeks we've had her.

We lock her up in a crate when we are gone for work. But I usually(75% of the time) come home to her COVERED in piss and shit. Even if she's only locked up for a couple hours, and she's gone prior to being caged.

But at night she sleeps with us.

Also, we were gonna try puppy pads, but just think she will end up tearing them up like in the OP.

Also don't want to her encourage her going inside.

The idea with the puppy pads is you're training her to go in one spot rather than anywhere. You can then start taking the pads outside to associate going outside with the "right" way to go and eventually transition off the pads entirely.

But you're right, there is a chance she might tear them up.

Also, if you're coming home to her covered in shit, you're not taking her out enough. A puppy, especially a smaller one, needs to go out every few hours before establishing a routine. She's shitting on herself because she's not getting the attention she needs.

It's spread out in the bedroom, but when we hang out in the living room, she only ever tries to pee by the front door(oddly enough, the door she's never gone through).

Dude we're taking her out literally multiple times an hour. It isn't that we're ignoring her. We usually cut her food and water about at least an hour before she gets crated.

I think it's behavioral, as does the vet.

Also we installed a "potty bell" about a week ago, trying to get her to use that.

You're suppose to ring it every time before taking the dog out, and eventually they will connect the two and ring the bell themselves.

I do think we should probably do more crate training WHILE we're home and awake.

I feel bad, but in the end it would make her more comfortable in there.

Just sucks because i don't want to crate her while we're gone, and then put her back in there for 30 mins intervals while home. She shouldn't be spending 20 hours a day locked up (I'm including sleep time)

I work 7-5 M-F. My gf doesn't have a set schedule, opens some days, closes others, and never has set days off. So it's hard to get a solid routine for that.

Don't think of a puppy like a person. Puppies sleep a LOT and as long as they're getting ample playtime when not crated, it's perfectly reasonable to crate her in intervals even when you're home. It's important to establish a routine and boundaries and a crate is one of the best ways to do that. Plus the crate becomes the dog's "safe space" she can go to when she doesn't want to socialize. Once she's old enough to hold her bladder you can just keep the door open.

yeah but a crate is meant to store and transport things. like your pet right
a cage is meant to hold things in, trap them

they're two different things
A cardboard box then is just a cage but its made out of cardboard lmfao

now i may be imagining the wrong thing
but when you say crate i think of those airport things, but bigger

That's because it's gotten to the point that the dog is so stressed out and frightened that they begin having constipation and bladder issues. This can lead to bladder infections since they are too scared to relieve themselves.

I mean the crate is designed to keep the dog in, but also has a handle for transport.

If she DOESN'T shit in her crate, it's because she's so stressed out that she's constipated?? (Even though she goes as soon as I take her out)

My dog turns 2 on Sunday. He has had 1 accident in his crate since we got him at 8 weeks, and that was about a month ago. He had dihareha and just couldn't hold it overnight. Had a hard time convincing him he wasn't in trouble. He has known since we brought him home that he shouldn't go potty in his crate.
