Current Events > So im still balls deep into my first FFXV playthrough. Starting to notice shit.

45 hours in(about ten of that is me being asleep), level 41 right now, on chapter 6 lol. Anyway. The repetition in this game is starting to frustrate me so I've had to go and focus on the story for the while. I was doing every side quest and hunt I could, banking the xp and using galdin quay hotel to double it all.

But getting essentially the same 4 quests over and over and over and over gets really fucking old. I like doing the dungeons, and I wish there was more to explore, but there's basically nothing but mmo quests that repeat in different locations, random fishing and shit, and the story. That's it. I have all the dlc so far but royal update launches tomorrow and I have no idea if I'll want to get it.

Doesn't help I've completely broken the game with my "grinding" and my using a dlc outfit and weapon combo that pretty much wins the game for you, but its fun like that.

Sounds like the game's pacing is trash if that's the case.

The pacing is totally trash just like 95% of everything else about the game

I remember my friend beat the game and it's one of her favourite games ever, but then I learned she's the type of person to only do story stuff in open world games so she skipped all the tedium.

I was only doing the sidequests that seemed easy/quick/fun/profitable but I got sick of shit one shot-ing me for no reason and then flipping a coin if I could use a potion or got a game over. It was so inconsistent. Unlike Zelda where if something one shot you, you only lost 1 min of progress.

It isn't the pacing that's an issue, it is that they made dozens of side quests available and as a result made you feel like you should do those over the main quest. It's not like ffxii where the hunts were, at least up till the phon coast, paced well and reflected the levels they expected you to be at by that point.

The problem that gets to me most is having to sit there doing fuck all while the car drives to story locations. It took me a while to realize going to parking spots instant warps you there so it cuts down on travel time, but I swear half this games playtime is watching the car drive places.

It sounds like I'm giving the game a backhanded compliment when I say this, but I mean it sincerely when I say that some of my favourite time in the game was just setting a 7 - 9 min destination and putting Ignis in the wheel seat and just chilling with a cold soda and a magazine, watching the scenery go by and the literally amazing animations of the characters with the voiceless interactions during the ride. The magic is only broken when Noctis and Ignis wont shut the fuck up about coffee.

It's just great. One of the few good things in FFXV.

So im level 52 now. Done all of Cindy's quests for the Regalia. Got one last dungeon to do that can be done before post game, Cottle mark tower. In it now.

I fucking hated the damn sewers.

The sewers with the Regalia headlights in it. With all the switches. The boss is a giant dragon thing.

I went there post story when I had max level spells crafted from the zu hunt components, nuked it in about two minutes because I had to wait between casts.

This is also important to note. At least the dlcs are kinda interesting, unless you're a completionist. Beating the post story super fight sucks hardcore.
